It’s a feature length murder mystery format but the difference with Blue Murder is that Janine Lewis (Caroline Quentin) is not your typical maverick detective, she’s a struggling single mother, having more than enough trouble running her home and managing the growing demands of her four children, which all of makes for a refreshing change actually.
Quentin plays Detective Chief Inspector Janine Lewis and her second in command is Detective Inspector Richard Mayne (played by Ian Kelsey, formerly of Emmerdale and Casualty). As key to the series that the crimes are, there is as much importance placed on Janine’s home life as she copes with the heavy demands of being a single mum and of course there is the hint of sexual tension in the air between Lewis and Mayne.
