Bosom Buddies (ABC 1980, Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari)

The infamous Tom Hanks sitcom, a show he has downplayed somewhat since his movie stardom but was a vital stepping stone in his career path. So why infamous! Well Hanks spends most of the show cavorting around in drag!

The premise is something of an old chestnut, two young men; Hanks as Kip Wilson and Peter Scolari as Henry Desmond, pose as girls in order to bag the cheap rent offered by the all girl residence that is the Susan B Anthony Hotel.

The pair work for an advertising agency in New York (although Henry has hopes of becoming a novelist and Kip wants to become an artist) and its their friend Amy (who fancies Henry) who comes up with the idea so before you can say ‘Tootsie’ the boys have become ‘Buffy’ (Hanks) and Hildegarde (Scolari), the funny thing is, like always when its men in drag, no one seems to catch on that the two not at all attractive women who have moved in are actually fellers!
