Congo (BBC-2 2001)

Immense, stunning, look at the Congo’s Journey from the east through the heart of Africa and into the sea. With amazing photography, the first episode took a journey along the congo while part two followed a group of BaAka Pygmies searching for a legendary monster whilst the third part looked at two different species of chimpanzee, who each live on opposite sides of the river.

Narrated by John Lynch, this was the BBC’s first ever Central Africa wildlife documentary series, although little filming was possible in the Democratic Republic of the Congo which encompasses the vast majority of the river’s watershed. The reason for this is that the Second Congo War was underway during filming.

The series forms part of the Natural History Unit’s Continents strand and was preceded by Andes to Amazon in 2000 and Wild Africa later that year in 2001.
