Cracker (ITV 1993-1995, Robbie Coltrane, Geraldine Somerville)

Robbie Coltrane is Fitz, a brilliant but self-destructive clinical psychologist in the acclaimed detective drama series, Cracker. In these sharply written stories, his ingenious skills at profiling and capturing criminals help the Manchester police force to solve some of the regions toughest crimes.

A genius at his work, Fitz is also deeply flawed. A hard drinker, heavy smoker with a weakness for gambling, Fitz struggles with a troubled marriage and strained relationships with some of the force who often resent his involvement in their investigations.

Always controversial, Cracker takes on tough issues, isn’t afraid to portray villains as sympathetic and takes a brave look at policing methods. Robbie Coltrane is a standout as Fitz and is supported by a strong ensemble cast of some of Britain’s finest actors including Christopher Eccleston and Ricky Tomlinson.
