In Exile (Channel 4 1998, Patrice Naiambana, Emily Joyce)
Comedy series about a deposed African military dictator living in London. In Exile detailed the problems faced by deposed African dictator General Mukate who has been forced to live in exile in London. He was accompanied by Solomon formerly of the Presidential Guard but now his chauffeur and his PA was Ellen.
The series grew out of Channel 4’s Sitcom Festival which aimed to find new comedies. These were all performed on stage (not TV) to test live audience reaction, In Exile was from the 1996 run.
Patrice Naiambana was best known for his work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and was excellent in the lead. The series though only last for the one run of episodes.
