Firm Friends (ITV 1992-1994, Billie Whitelaw, Madhur Jaffrey)

In comedy drama series Firm Friends, middle aged Rose Gutteridge teams up with her house cleaner Jayshree Kapoor to start their own chain of fast food shops.

Madhur Jaffrey is best known as a highly regarded celebrity chef, with many books and TV series to her name but she has always acted, working several times with Merchant Ivory on films such as Shakespeare Wallah (1965) and The Assam Garden (1985). Firm Friends taps into her cooking career too of course – Jayshree and Rose’s business is selling cooked foods.
