Gilmore Girls (The CW 2000-2007, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel)

Drama series. thirtysomething single mum Lorelai Gilmore works as manager of an inn whilst bringing up her 16 year old daughter Rory, when Rory gets the chance to go to an exclusive school Lorelai is forced to ask the parents she never sees for help with the fees, they agree but only on the condition of keeping in touch with their daughter and granddaughters lives. By 2004 Rory is attending Yale university and struggling to make new friends.
