Hello Cheeky (ITV 1976, Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Junkin)
Hello Cheeky was a fast paced sketch show starring the three writers (Barry Cryer, John Junkin, Tim Brooke-Taylor) also involved was musician Denis King (he of the Adventures of Black Beauty theme tune legend).
The silliness factor was high, episodes had titles like Quarter Final – Second Leg and (see below). There were eight editions in the first season but only five in the second. Although the show was pre-recorded the gang tried to keep it as live as possible.
The quartet had been performing the same show on Radio since 1973 and there were also a couple of records released of various songs and sketches from the radio series.
The series was given a prestigious TV Times cover for it’s debut and a two page feature on their working style. The group got to together to write the shows at John Junkin’s bachelor pad in north west London, writing jokes and drinking tea. Despite having all known each other for ages the radio show was the first time they had teamed up.
