In The Club (BBC-1 2014, Hermoine Norris, Katherine Parkinson)

Drama series In The Club following the lives of six different couples who are attending their local Parent Craft class as they prepare for the imminent arrival of a baby into their lives.

The couples ranged from 40-something Roanna and her toyboy partner Simon to 15 year old Hannah. Meanwhile Vicky (who is also pregnant), Geraldine and Fiona are the midwives who run the classes and put in the real hard yards when baby is due.

This is the kind of stuff Mellor does best – strong characters brought to life by some great acting talent. A second series was commissioned by the BBC for broadcast in 2015 but it eventually aired in mid 2016. Kaye Mellor’s daughter, the actress Gaynor Faye, contributed a script to the second season. She was credited under the name Gaynor Mellor.
