Pickwick (BBC Musical, Harry Secombe, Roy Castle)
One off musical entertainment Pickwick was a comedy musical based on The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens. Harry Secombe was perfectly cast as Mr Pickwick with Roy Castle as Sam Weller and the fabulous Hattie Jacques as Mrs Barwell.
The production opened in Fleet Prison where Mr Pickwick has unfortunately found himself with the action then flashing back to other key incidents including our hero mistakenly entering the Eatanswill Election. Songs included If I Ruled the World, Hell of an Election and That’s What I like for Christmas.
The production had first been mounted as a successful stage musical in 1963.
