Period drama series. It is the 1950’s and Sarah Adams returns home to Sydney hoping for a reconciliation with her ageing mother who will still have nothing to do with her. Adams, a nurse, instead becomes intimately involved with the Bligh family, moving onto their country estate Ash Park in the heart of country New South Wales.
Big and glossy (the first Australian series shot on a Sony F65 – the digital equivalent of a 35mm film camera) A Place To Call Home is another show from the pen of Bevan Lee. Lee has admitted that his inspiration for the series is the 1950’s movies of Douglas Sirk and there is plenty of glamour, intrigue, conflict and melodrama.
The first two season aired on Channel 7 but it proved to be too expensive for them and Foxtel picked up the series. Season three aired on the SoHo network before switching to Showcase.
