Sliders (Fox 1995-2000, Jerry O’Connell, John Rhys-Davies)

In San Francisco the brilliant grad student Quinn Mallory (Jerry O’Connell) manages to accidentally create a worm hole during a science experiment that enables him to travel into parallel dimensions, dragging along his science professor Max Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), his best friend Wade (Sabrina Lloyd) and bystander Rembrandt “Crying Man” Brown (a down on his luck soul singer played by Cleavant Derricks) for his first test run the gang find themselves in a frozen San Francisco that is about to be vapourised by a tornado and then in a Quantum Leap type development the quartet try to get home only to discover they are destined to keep “sliding” into alternate Earth’s, some very similar, some incredibly different.

Sliders is great fun with it’s clever concept that doesn’t take itself too seriously (witness the scene where the gang do accidentally arrive back in their own Earth dimension but seeing that Cleveland are in the world series and OJ Simpson has been on trial for murder don’t believe its their own Earth).
