Sparticle Mystery, The (CBBC 2011, Abigail Hardingam, Karim Zeroual)
In The Sparticle Mystery the whole world is thrown into chaos when a bizarre scientific experiment sees every single human over the age of 15 disappear into thin air leaving only the children behind. As one group of kids begin to pull together they realise that the disappearance is linked to the sinister Sparticle Project and if they can track it down they could hopefully put things to rights.
The gang embark on a quest across the UK but soon realise that a world without adults is not all fun and games and danger is never far away.
Coming on like a junior Survivors but without the gruesome people dying from a plague bit. It’s fabulous stuff harking back to 1970′s classics such as The Changes and mixing in a major quest element as the kids realise what is going on and embark on a journey to try and revert things back to normal. This is definitely a welcome return to the kind of thinking children’s tv that used to be a staple of our viewing but these days is something of a rarity.
