Sword Of Freedom (ITV Action, Edmund Purdom, Adrienne Corri)

Period action adventure series Sword of Freedom was set in 15th Century Italy where a one time painter Marco Del Monte (Edmund Purdom) becomes a sword fighting hero to the people. Helping Del Monte was Angelica (Adrienne Corri), his favourite model and Sandro (Rowland Bartrop) was the muscle.

The series mixed in classic action with real life characters, in one episode Marco fires a “machine gun” made by Leonardo Da Vinci. He regularly tangles with Machiavelli (Kenneth Hyde) as well as Duke de Medici (Martin Benson) who runs the governing council.

The series went under the working title of The Florentine.
