The Big Noise (BBC Sitcom, Bob Monkhouse)

In The Big Noise we follow episodes in the life of popular radio DJ Bob Mason (Bob Monkhouse). The show was subtitled ‘episodes in the uneasy life of a top pop disc jockey’ and the series featured appearances from real life DJ’s Jimmy Saville and David Jacobs as well as guest appearances from the likes of John Fortune, Warren Mitchell, David Hemmings, Sheila Steafel, Roy Hudd, Irene Handl, Marianne Stone and Avril Angers.

A band called The Untamed Four also appeared most weeks. They actually played a different band each week, in one they were called Manic and the Depressives, in another The Gravediggers. They were a band from the South of England who had been spotted by Juke Box Jury producer Barry Langford. They were regulars on BBC music show The Beat Room and toured with The Animals . Big things were expected but, despite a few singles, they had no hits.
