The Love Of Mike (ITV Sitcom, Michael Medwin)

ITV Sitcom The Love of Mike detailed the exploits of womanising (but normally broke) dance band trumpeter Mike Lane (Michael Medwin). The series, which ran for one season of 30 episodes, was a chance for star Medwin to shine having come to fame in highly popular comedy The Army Game. Other regulars included Carmel McSharry as Mike’s cleaner, George Roderick as his married neighbour and Brian Wilde as his first flatmate Mike (he was quickly replaced by Bernard Fox after seven episodes).

The TV Times of the week of the show’s premiere (April 17, 1960) featured an interview with Medwin. Much was made of the fact that Mike would be chasing after a different girl every week. For instance he manages to end up as judge at the Miss World contest and is mistaken for a pilot en route to the Cannes Film Festival.
