The Piano (BBC Drama, Hilda Barry, Leo Franklyn)
In one off comedy drama The Piano, broadcast under the Play For Today banner, an elderly couple, Ada (Hilda Barry) and Edgar Ackroyd (Leo Franklyn), are to move into their new council home (their old house is to be demolished to make way for a new development), when their piano won’t fit into their new home however, the couple refuse to move.
Wholesale redevelopment was happening everywhere in the UK at the time with thousands of people having to leave the homes they had grown up in, many of them moving into tower blocks so this was a very topical play.
