In one off drama The Place of Peace, Jean (Jane Lapotaire) fulfils a long held ambition to visit her Aunt Clare (Beatrix Lehmann) in India. Clare has spent her life looking after the poor and destitute and Jean believes she is ready to make the same commitment. When Jean and boyfriend Willy (Roger Rees) arrive in India she is shocked to discover her aunt is dying. She also realises she may not be ready after all to make the same commitment that her Aunt made.

The Place of Peace was written by the Oscar winning Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, long time writer on Merchant Ivory films. She was a key part of the trio along with director James Ivory and producer Ismail Merchant.
