The Purge (USA Network 2018, Gabriel Chavarria, Jessica Garza)
Set in a dystopian America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. Tying them all together is a mysterious savior who’s impeccably equipped for everything the night throws at them. As the clock winds down with their fates hanging in the balance, each character is forced to reckon with their pasts as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.
From USA’s press release, June 2018… Thriller fans, take note: A television version of The Purge will hit USA Network this September! Following The First Purge movie this summer, The Purge series is based on Blumhouse Productions’ hit franchise – and set in the same universe. The show follows several seemingly unrelated, conflicted characters as they prepare for a 12-hour period when all crime – including murder – is legal.
Film creator James DeMonaco serves as writer and executive producer, while a host of familiar talent also contributes: Thomas Kelly (Copper, The Get Down) has been tapped as the showrunner, while Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning director of USA’s Unsolved: The Murders Of Tupac And The Notorious B.I.G., Anthony Hemingway, will direct and executive produce the premiere episode. The Purge will premiere Tuesday, September 4 at 10/9c on USA Network with the premiere and finale episodes simulcast on SYFY.
