Two and a Half Men (CBS 2003-2015, Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer)

Two And A Half Men starred Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer and was a sitcom about a wealthy bachelor whose life is turned upside down when his brother and young nephew move into his Malibu beach house.

Charlie Harper (Sheen) savors his swinging single status and his lucrative job as the writer of popular jingles, but his self-indulgent lifestyle is about to come to an end when his about-to-be-divorced, younger brother, Alan (Cryer), and Alan’s 10-year-old son, Jake (Angus T. Jones, ‘Bringing Down the House’), move into his beach-front home.

As Alan, an uptight chiropractor, comes to terms with being dumped by his wife, Judith (Marin Hinkle, ‘Once and Again’), he gets little compassion from his self-absorbed brother. Soon, however, polar opposites Charlie and Alan discover that they have more in common than their strained relationship with their socialite mother, Evelyn — they both love Jake and want what’s best for him. The brothers agree to create a home for Jake at Charlie’s, despite the realization that they’ll likely drive each other crazy in the process.

For a long time the series was one of the most sitcoms in the world but then things began to get a little crazy thanks to offstage shenanigans and personal issues of star Sheen.

So much so that at the beginning of 2011 the series almost ended but instead went on hiatus, the following statement was issued by CBS Entertainment, Warner Bros.Television and Executive Producer Chuck Lorre: Due to Charlie Sheen’s decision to enter a rehabilitation center, CBS, Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre are placing ‘Two and a Half Men’ on production hiatus. We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision.

This was followed at the end of Feb with another statement saying: ‘Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of ‘Two and a Half Men’ for the remainder of the season.’ And then on March 7: ‘After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen’s services on ‘Two and a Half Men,’ effective immediately.’

On May 12, 2011 it was then revealed that the series would continue and that Ashton Kutcher would be taking over from Sheen as Walden Schmidt.

From CBS’s press release, December 2014… CBS announced today that Two And A Half Men, one of television’s most successful comedies, will conclude its 12th and final season with a special one-hour series finale on Thursday, Feb. 19 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). Upon its completion, 262 episodes will have aired. The series earned 47 Emmy Award nominations, with Jon Cryer winning twice, one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2009 and another for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2012. The series also won People’s Choice Awards for Favorite TV Comedy in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and Favorite New TV Comedy in 2004, among other awards.
