Beat Room, The (BBC-2 1964-1965, The Kinks, The Beat Girls)

Music programme The Beat Room capitalised on the beat music explosion at the time. Introduced by Pat Campbell (who wasn’t seen on screen). The programme developed into Gadzooks! It’s All Happening.

Lots of cool names (all singing live) appeared including the likes of John Lee Hooker, The Kinks, Julie Rogers, Tom Jones, Millie, The Animals, Lulu, Bill Haley and The Comets, Peter and Gordon, Zoot Money and The Big Pill Band, The Hollies, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Beach Boys, Troy Dante and The Infernoes and Sonny Boy Williamson to name just a few.

Interestingly there was also a female dance troupe called The Beat Girls who would appear each week, some of the “Beat Girls” would go on to Top of the Pops fame as first The Go Jos and then the legendary Pan’s People.
