Deal, The (Channel 4 2003, Michael Sheen, David Morrissey)

Drama The Deal explores the relationship between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown starting with their first meeting when they shared an office in Westminster after both becoming MP’s. Mixing known facts with supposition it goes on to show how, following the unexpected death of labour leader John Smith, a deal struck between Blair and Brown may have been the reason why Brown stood down and allowed Blair to become leader of the Labour party.

The two lead performances elevated this to something a bit special. Sheen would also go on to portray Tony Blair in The Queen and The Special Relationship.
