Foreign Affairs (BBC-1 1966, Leslie Phillips, Richard O’Sullivan)
Sitcom Foreign Affairs detailed the misadventures of Dennis Proudfoot (a typical Leslie Phillips performance), the personal assistant of Foreign Office official Sir Hugh Marriot.
Cashing in on the spy craze that was very en vogue in 1966 there was a spy angle to the series with Sir Hugh and Dennis regularly tangling with their Russian counterparts Grischa Petrovitch and his boss Serge Volchanivov.
Besides Phillips classic comedy names also included Ronnie Baker as Grischa, the always excellent Joe Melia and Richard O’Sullivan as post-room boy Taplow.
