Georgian House, The (ITV 1976, Spencer Banks, Adrienne Byrne)
In children’s fantasy drama serial The Georgian House students Abbie (Adrienne Byrne) and Dan (Spencer Banks) take on a holiday job working in a museum. 200 years ago it was the stately home belonging to the Leadbetter family.
When Abbie and Dan become attracted to a strange African carving it is the catalyst that thrusts them back in time to 1772. Now Dan is a kitchen boy and Abbie one of the Leadbetter household. It soon becomes apparent they have been sent back for a reason – to help slave boy Ngo (Brinsley Forde) who is in danger of being sent back to the dreaded plantations when all he wants to do is get home.
Along the way Dan almost ends up in prison and Abbie is threatened with being sent to Penzance. Meanwhile back in 1975 museum boss Ellis (Jack Watson) has no idea where his young helpers have disappeared to.
This is one of the few 1970’s ITV children’s drama serials that doesn’t completely exist. Sadly only a couple of episodes remain.
