Tom Brown’s Schooldays (BBC-1 1971, Anthony Murphy, Iain Cuthbertson)
Period drama serial Tom Brown’s Schooldays took us to the 19th century where young Tom faces a trying time when he joins a public school especially when he makes an enemy of the evil Flashman who stops at nothing to make young Tom’s life a misery.
The character of Flashman would later go on to inspire the series of comic novels by George MacDonald Fraser.
