Changing Ends Episode 2 , 23 April 2024, ITV1
In the second episode of Changing Ends, airing on ITV1 on Tuesday 23 April, Christine, played by Nancy Sullivan, is eager for a night out. Meanwhile, young Alan, portrayed by Oliver Savell, faces challenges at school, struggling with bullies and the looming dread of communal showers. As he navigates puberty in 1980s Northampton, Alan must also grapple with hiding more than just his father’s identity.
Changing Ends is a semi-autobiographical sitcom based on Alan Carr’s own experiences growing up in Northampton during the 1980s. The series offers a humorous and heartfelt portrayal of Carr’s journey through adolescence, self-discovery, and acceptance of his sexuality in the harsh climate of Thatcher’s Britain.
The show stars Alan Carr as himself in present-day segments, while Oliver Savell takes on the role of young Alan. Shaun Dooley and Nancy Sullivan play Alan’s parents, Graham and Christine, and Taylor Fay portrays his younger brother, Gary.
The series gives us a nice little insight into Carr’s life, especially the challenges he faced during his teenage years, including bullying and sexual awakening. It also explores the impact of his father’s profession as a fourth division football manager on his identity and relationships.
Changing Ends Episode 2 airs on ITV1 at 8:30 pm on Tuesday 23 April 2024.
