Dateline presents a two-hour episode titled “The Road Trip,” airing Friday, May 24 on NBC. The episode investigates the murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers, a well-known holistic medicine physician from Bonita Springs, Florida, and the investigation that ensued.
On June 28, 2015, 46-year-old Dr. Teresa Sievers, a mother of two, was found bludgeoned to death in her kitchen. She had flown home early from a family vacation as she planned to see patients the next day. When she didn’t arrive at work, a family friend made the grim discovery of her body on the kitchen floor. The investigation revealed that Sievers had been struck multiple times in the head with a hammer, resulting in a crushed skull. There were signs of forced entry, and the security alarm had been disabled. Despite a substantial gun collection and a large sum of cash in the home, nothing appeared to have been taken.
The case took an unexpected turn when, two months later, police arrested Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. and Jimmy Ray Rodgers, two men from Missouri, charging them with Sievers’ murder. Wright, a childhood friend of Sievers’ husband, Mark Sievers, revealed that Mark had confided in him about his marital issues and concerns about losing custody of their children. Wright had suggested that the only solution was for Teresa to die, and Mark allegedly agreed to pay him to make it happen. A third accomplice, Jimmy Ray Rodgers, another childhood friend of Mark’s, was also recruited.
In a shocking development in December 2015, Mark Sievers himself was arrested and accused of masterminding the murder of his wife. “The Road Trip” includes interviews with Sheriff Carmine Marceno, Lieutenant David Lebid, Lieutenant Michael Downs, Connie Reiss, and Jennie Weckelman, offering insights into the investigation and the impact of the crime on the community.
Dateline’s two-hour special, The Road Trip, airs Friday, May 24, at 9:00–11:00 p.m. ET/8:00–10:00 p.m. CT on NBC.
