High Country

In the sixth episode of High Country, airing on Binge on Tuesday 16 April, Andie’s personal and professional lives collide as she investigates the discovery of a drug crop, suspecting that the missing couple were murdered after stumbling upon it.

Meanwhile, her wife, Helen, gets high, and their daughter, Kirra, goes joyriding with her boyfriend, adding further complications to Andie’s already challenging situation.

The episode continues the story of Detective Andie Whitford (Leah Purcell), who has been transferred to the Victorian High Country to investigate the mysterious disappearances of five locals. In this instalment, Andie’s personal life intersects with her work as she navigates challenges both at home and in her investigation.

Andie’s wife, Helen (Sara Wiseman), and their daughter, Kirra, experience their own struggles. Helen gets high, while Kirra goes joyriding with her boyfriend, testing the boundaries of their new life in the country.

High Country is an Australian mystery-crime drama series that premiered on March 19, 2024, on the streaming service Binge. Created by Marcia Gardner and John Ridley, the show is set in the rugged and remote Victorian High Country, a region rarely captured on screen. The eight-part series follows detective Andrea ‘Andie’ Whitford, who uncovers a web of murder, deceit, and revenge as she investigates missing persons cases in the area.

Leah Purcell, known for her roles in Wentworth and Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson, leads the cast as detective Andrea Whitford. She is joined by an ensemble of talented actors, including Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Derry Girls) as Sam Dyson, a fellow police officer with a mysterious air; Sara Wiseman (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, A Place to Call Home) as Helen Hartley, Whitford’s life partner; and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish) as Owen Cooper, a former forestry worker turned tour guide.

The cast also includes Linda Cropper, Henry Nixon, Luke McKenzie, Matt Domingo, and Geoff Morrell, among others. The series is directed by Kevin Carlin, known for his work on Wentworth, and Beck Cole, who has directed episodes of We Are Still Here and Deadloch.

High Country airs on Binge at 9.00 pm on Tuesday 16 April 2024.
