ITV has announced that its streaming platform, ITVX, will live stream comedy shows from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August. “ITVX Presents: Edinburgh Fringe Live” will feature four hour-long comedy showcase episodes, streamed directly from the heart of the Fringe to viewers’ homes.
Each episode will present specially curated compilation shows, showcasing highlights from the performers’ festival routines. Audiences will be immersed in the anarchic and irreverent atmosphere of the Fringe, as if they were in the rooms themselves. The episodes will be produced by NextUp Comedy, a company with experience in live-streaming comedy shows from various venues.
The broadcast dates, venue details, and show line-ups for “ITVX Presents: Edinburgh Fringe Live” will be announced closer to August. This live-streaming initiative is part of ITVX’s strategy to strengthen its comedy offerings, which also includes the second season of “Alan Carr’s Changing Ends” and the new police-based sitcom “Piglets.”
Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Comedy, expressed enthusiasm for the live-streaming event, stating, “We wanted to build on the success of last year’s comedy season, knowing there is strength in numbers.” Craig Morris, Managing Editor of ITVX, added that comedy has proven to be one of the most popular genres on the platform, with streaming hours increasing by 80% year-on-year.
With ITVX’s live-streaming plans, comedy enthusiasts across the country will be able to experience the magic, chaos, and hilarity of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe directly from their homes. This initiative promises to bring the unique atmosphere and talent of the Fringe to a wider audience.
