ITV’s “Piglets”: A Police Academy Comedy from the Creators of “Green Wing”
ITV is set to premiere “Piglets,” a brand-new comedy series, on its streaming service ITVX this summer. The six-part sitcom, created by the writing team behind the classic comedy “Green Wing,” takes us inside the world of a police training college.
“Piglets” is set in a fictional police training college and centres on six diverse recruits: Steph (Callie Cooke), Leggo (Sam Pote), Geeta (Sukh Ojla), Afia (Halema Hussain), Dev (Abdul Sessay), and Paul (Jamie Bisping). The series explores the dynamic between these would-be cops and the staff tasked with moulding them into shape. Sarah Parish and Mark Heap take the leads as Superintendents Julie Spry and Bob Weekes
The government’s ambitious plan to recruit 20,000 new police officers quickly raises questions about standards and whether corners are being cut in the training process. “Piglets” dives into this scenario with a mix of humour and insight, showcasing the challenges and hijinks that unfold during their journey to becoming fully-fledged police officers.
The series is written by Victoria Pile, Robert Harley, James Henry, Oriane Messina, Fay Rusling, and ITV Comedy Writers Initiative candidate Omar Khan. There are additional contributions from new writers Abiola Ogunbiyi, Nusrath Tapadar, Farhan Solo, and Alex Bertulis-Fernandes.
The series is directed by Sam Leifer and Victoria Pile, who also serves as a producer. Executive producers include Caroline Leddy, Robert Harley, and Sam Leifer, with Monicker Pictures as the production company.
“Piglets” is part of ITV’s strategy to strengthen its comedy offerings on ITVX. Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Comedy, expressed her excitement, saying, “We wanted to build on the success of last year’s comedy season, knowing there is strength in numbers.”
“Piglets” will be available as a box set on ITVX this summer, with weekly episodes airing on ITV1. This release pattern aligns with ITV’s plan to showcase a range of new and returning comedies on its streaming platform, including the second season of “Alan Carr’s Changing Ends” and live comedy from the Edinburgh Fringe.
