Jeopardy! Wednesday April 24, 2024, Recap, Winner and Final Answer

Jeopardy Ken Jennings

In the Wednesday April 24 episode of Jeopardy!, three contestants took center stage to showcase their knowledge and quick thinking. The contestants were Amy Hummel, an ER doctor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Paul Drake, a front desk lead originally from Grand Blanc, Michigan; and Mark Lashley, a professor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who entered the game as a one-day champion with previous winnings of $17,601.

The first round presented a diverse range of categories, including U.S. Military Actions, Celebrity Memoirs, Hiking Gear, Etymologies, The Rite Stuff, and Movement. Mark struggled to find his footing in the initial rounds, missing the first Daily Double question, which pertained to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s autobiography, aptly titled “Total Recall.” At the first break, Mark had $1,000, Paul had $4,000, and Amy was close behind with $2,400.

However, as the game progressed into Double Jeopardy!, the competition intensified with new categories: Near the Equator, Essays, Art & Artists, Engineering Marvels, Music from 10 Years Ago, and Feel “Old” Yet? Mark, who had taken the lead with a score of $9,400, encountered another setback as he missed the second Daily Double, this time in the Essays category. The correct response was Thoreau’s essay “Civil Disobedience,” which inspired Mahatma Gandhi during his imprisonment.

Amy, who had built a substantial total of $16,000, took a bold wager of $4,000 on the third Daily Double but unfortunately could not provide the correct response to the clue about the largest living monitor lizard and its namesake island in Indonesia. This kept the game competitive heading into Final Jeopardy!, with Amy at $13,200, Paul at $9,400, and Mark still within striking distance at $8,600.

The Final Jeopardy! category, Historic Transports, challenged the contestants to identify a specific transport with an illustration of the Montgolfiers’ craft in its smoking room, accessible only via an airlock. All three contestants provided the correct response: What is the Hindenburg? Amy’s strategic wager of $5,700 secured her victory, bringing her total winnings to $18,900. Mark finished in second place with $9,401, and Paul took third place with $17,201.

Despite Mark’s early lead, Amy’s consistent performance and strategic wagering in the final round propelled her to victory. This episode once again demonstrated the importance of a well-rounded knowledge base and strategic betting in the world of Jeopardy!.
