Ministry of Evil: The Twisted Cult of Tony Alamo, 16 April 2024, BBC Four
In the final episode of Ministry of Evil: The Twisted Cult of Tony Alamo, airing on BBC Four on Tuesday 16 April, viewers will witness the disturbing actions of cult leader Tony Alamo as he begins ‘wedding’ young girls following his release from prison. The episode explores the escalation of child abuse within the cult, leading former members to urge the FBI to take action.
The series has documented the rise and fall of the Alamo Christian Foundation, founded in the 1960s by preachers Susan and Tony Alamo. The couple recruited vulnerable young people by promoting personal salvation, but the group soon faced allegations of abuse and labour violations.
Tony Alamo, a self-styled televangelist, exploited his followers, making millions while subjecting them to brainwashing, polygamy, and necromancy. The extreme practices within the cult are exposed through interviews with former members, who share their harrowing experiences.
The final episode focuses on Alamo’s disturbing behaviour towards young girls, highlighting the escalation of child abuse that prompted intervention from authorities and ultimately led to his arrest, conviction, and life sentence in 2009.
Ministry of Evil: The Twisted Cult of Tony Alamo airs on BBC Four at 10.45 pm on Tuesday 16 April 2024.
