NEXT at the Kennedy Center presents, “Ben Folds Presents DECLASSIFIED,” airing on PBS on Friday April 12. In this instalment, renowned musician Ben Folds invites three exceptional artists—Jacob Collier, Laufey, and dodie—to join him and the National Symphony Orchestra in reimagining their music through an orchestral lens.
It’s a unique collaboration as these artists, each with their distinct style, come together to create exquisite new versions of their hit songs. The driving mission behind this episode is to showcase that every note played on stage matters, and the absence of a traditional rhythm section further emphasises the impact of the orchestra as their band.
Ben Folds, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter, has created a diverse body of genre-bending music, including pop albums with Ben Folds Five and multiple solo albums. He serves as the Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra, bringing his passion for musical innovation to a new audience.
Jacob Collier, hailed as a virtuosic artist, adds his distinctive touch to the collaboration. Rising jazz superstar Laufey and chart-topping English singer-songwriter dodie complete the lineup, bringing their own unique styles to the orchestral arrangements.
NEXT at the Kennedy Center airs on PBS at 10.00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024.
