“Potluck Ladies” Kicks Off Asian Heritage Month on Hollywood Suite

Hollywood Suite announces the world broadcast premiere of “Potluck Ladies,” a four-part Canadian sitcom inspired by the experiences of South Asian women in Toronto. The series, directed by Shazia Javed, will air on Hollywood Suite’s 2000s channel starting May 1, coinciding with the commencement of Asian Heritage Month.

“Potluck Ladies” follows the lives of three newly immigrated South Asian women—Natasha Krishnan, Elisa Moolecherry, and Kavita Musty—as they navigate their unique challenges while forming a supportive sisterhood. The series promises to offer a fresh and engaging perspective on the immigrant experience, with a focus on the importance of friendship and community.

Shazia Javed, an award-winning Indo-Canadian filmmaker, is the creative force behind “Potluck Ladies.” Javed is known for her documentaries, “Namrata” and “3 Seconds Divorce”, and has had her films screened at prestigious festivals such as Hot Docs, DOXA, and Durban International. Her production company, LifeSketch Media Inc., is dedicated to creating content that reflects the diverse realities of underrepresented communities.

The series joins a diverse slate of films curated by Hollywood Suite for Asian Heritage Month, including classics such as “Fist of Fury” and “Eat Drink Man Woman”, as well as contemporary favorites like “Midnight’s Children” and “Late Night.”
