“Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” continues its exploration of the hidden underbelly of children’s television with two new episodes airing tonight on Investigation Discovery from 7.00pm.
In the first episode, titled “Rising Stars, Rising Questions,” viewers are taken back to the 1990s when a prominent figure emerges at Nickelodeon – showrunner Dan Schneider. Schneider is known for bringing laughter and mentorship to kids’ TV and for nurturing young talent like Amanda Bynes. However, behind the scenes, female writers face a toxic and sexist environment that remains largely unseen by the public eye.
The second episode, “Too Close to the Sun,” airing at 9.00pm, delves into the harrowing experiences of a former child star who survived abuse inflicted by his acting coach. Shockingly, even after being convicted for child sex abuse, this abusive coach manages to stay connected to kids’ television. Meanwhile, Dan Schneider’s influence in the industry continues to grow until it reaches a boiling point.
