Sky Cancels Fantasy Football League Reboot After Two Seasons

Sky has cancelled Fantasy Football League, ending the show’s revival just two years after it brought back the iconic programme.

The show’s producer, Spencer Millman, confirmed the news on social media, expressing his disappointment and gratitude to those involved. Millman’s post read: “Gutted to say that Fantasy Football League won’t be returning for another run. Big thanks to my brilliant production team, crew, writers, spotters, you were an absolute joy to work with. A massive thanks to all the sofa and phoenix guests we had over the 24 shows, we loved having you. Huge love to Matt, Elis, Mense and of course Lee Trundle but most importantly thanks to the people who watched it. I’m eternally grateful you accepted the changes to the original and sorry we won’t be making more. Much love and gratitude.”

Fantasy Football League was a reboot of the cult original series hosted by David Baddiel and Frank Skinner. The new version, hosted by Elis James and Matt Lucas, with fellow football enthusiast and comedian Andrew Mensah, offered a fresh take on the classic format. It combined light-hearted discussions about the latest football news with comedic sketches and clips.

The show featured a segment called “Phoenix From The Flames,” which recreated memorable moments from football history with well-known figures, including David James, Kelly Smith, and Lee Dixon. Each week, celebrity guests joined as managers of their fantasy football teams, sharing their passion for the sport. Guests included Jennifer Saunders, Tom Grennan, Roman Kemp, Sir Trevor McDonald, and AJ Tracey, to name a few.

The programme’s first series aired on Sky Max in Autumn 2022, and the second series followed in February 2024. Despite its popularity, Sky has decided not to renew the show for another season, marking the end of this iteration of Fantasy Football League.
