The long-running BBC religious program Songs of Praise presents its latest episode, ‘Christian Carers,’ airing on BBC One this Sunday, 9 June 2024, at 1:15 pm. The episode explores the intersection of faith and caregiving, highlighting the stories of those whose Christian faith sustains them as they care for their loved ones.
In this episode, presenter Rev Kate Bottley travels to Norfolk, where she meets Liz Grint, a caregiver for her husband and son, and learns how prayer supports her through life’s challenges and joys. Kate also connects with 13-year-old Malachi and his family, who share how their faith has been a source of strength during his battle with leukemia.
The episode highlights the importance of self-care for caregivers, featuring a walking group run by a local charity in Sheffield. The group provides a space for carers to tend to their physical and mental well-being and connect with others who understand their experiences. For two of the walkers, it’s also an opportunity to share and strengthen their Christian faith.
As always, the episode features a wonderful mix of music, old and new, from across the UK, including performances of ‘God Is Love, His the Care’ from The Albert Hall in Nottingham, ‘Be Still and Know That I Am God’ from St Colmcille’s in Holywood, and ‘Take My Life and Let It Be’ from Chester Cathedral, among other uplifting selections.
