Sue starts her journey with a bang, stepping into the ring with a flexible Muay Thai champion, Jade Sirisompan. Jade impresses Sue not only with her fighting skills but also with her leadership in a male-dominated sport. Leaving the boxing gym, Sue travels to the lush Phetchaburi province, where she visits a charity refuge and learns about the alarming scale of tiger exploitation in Thailand. Here, she prepares a feast for a rescued tiger, once chained to a concrete pad in a zoo.
Back in Bangkok, Sue shifts her focus to a more positive topic, exploring an electric tuk-tuk company that aims to address the city’s severe air pollution, which claims the lives of nearly 30,000 people annually. She takes the wheel of one of these vehicles during a tropical storm and quickly discovers their impressive acceleration. Sue’s adventures continue in the seaside town of Bang Saen, where she stumbles upon a ‘Hell Garden’ hidden behind a Buddhist Temple. This unique garden uses graphic statues to illustrate the potential consequences of sin.
Sue then meets an ethical coconut farmer who encourages her to harvest aromatic coconuts using secateurs, all while maintaining an ethical approach by avoiding the use of chained monkeys for harvesting, a common practice on many coconut farms. Back in town, she joins forces with one of Thailand’s youngest Michelin-starred chefs to create a punchy little taco.
To round off her journey, Sue jams with a group of musicians who are giving traditional Molam music a modern twist, creating some fantastic disco tracks. It’s the perfect ending to her magical and revealing voyage through Thailand.
