The programme delves into the history of Pi-Ramses, exploring its association with the older city of Avaris, which had been the capital of the Hyksos before they were defeated and driven out by Ahmose I. By linking his new city with Avaris, Ramses II made a clever choice, capitalising on the legendary status of the former capital.

The episode follows Franzmeier and his team as they uncover a splendid palace and treasure room within the city walls. Through their excavations, they aim to reveal the true history of this lost city, shedding light on the grandeur and strategic importance of Pi-Ramses during Ramses II’s reign.
