DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) returns for the final instalment of the thirteenth series, “Salt and Vinegar“, airing on ABC TV on Sunday 21 April. In this episode, Vera investigates the death of a chip shop co-owner, Scott Rhodes (Scott Turnbull), whose body is discovered in a freezer.
The case takes an intriguing turn as Vera uncovers secrets, lies, and unforgivable behaviour. Scott, a seemingly successful entrepreneur and dedicated family man, is found to have left behind debts, broken promises, and a trail of ruined lives. Vera also learns that Scott interfered in a family business that was not his own.
With a long list of suspects, Vera and her team must navigate a web of deceit and false truths to identify the perpetrator of this “unsavoury chip shop assault and battery”. The investigation brings Vera together with her former colleague, Joe Ashworth (David Leon), who returns to oversee her team’s working methods. Their dynamic is tested as Joe demands to be seen as an equal, creating conflict and tension.
The episode also offers a glimpse into Vera’s past, with a scene of her gardening at her cottage, wearing her father’s dungarees and Wellington boots.
Vera: Salt and Vinegar airs on ABC TV at 8.30 pm on Sunday 21 April 2024.
