In sitcom All Along The Watchtower the two remaining staff at early warning radar station RAF Auchnacluchnie in the wilds of Scotland have no idea the cold war is over. Flight Leiutenant Harrison is aghast when he learns he too is to be stationed there, until that is he falls for the tempting charms of local schoolteacher Eilidh Guthrie.
She tells him that the village school, which only has a single pupil, will lose its grant and be forvced to shut down if the base is closed.
As a result of Harrison’s report back to HQ, it’s decided that the staff at the base needs to be increased by one. Since Harrison is already in the area, the RAF decide that he should remain there.
