Death in Paradise is a crime drama series that follows the cases of an English copper who is posted to the Caribbean island of Sante Marie. For most people it would be paradise but for Detective Inspector Richard Poole it is the exact opposite, definitely not suited to the Caribbean way of life Gill hates the sea, sand and sun and initially finds the Carribean way of doing things highly disconcerting. He quickly begins to find his feet though as, partnered with local girl Camille, he investigates the murder of a fellow Brit cop. He is so successful that he ends up staying on – albeit a little against his will.
Season three saw the surprise murder of Richard Poole (Ben Miller had wanted out). The murder was solved by his replacement Humphrey Goodman. Midway through season six Goodman returned to London and was replaced by DI Jack Mooney.
The series was the first co-production between the beeb and France Televisions and the series was co-developed by both broadcasters for screening in both countries.
Series creator Robert Thorogood was discovered by Production company Red Planet as part of their annual Red Planet Prize Writing competition!
