Frontier (ITV 1968, Gary Bond, Paul Eddington)

Period drama series Frontier told stories of a group of soldiers stationed in India in the 1880’s.

Despite the setting of Northern India location filming for the series was in fact conducted in North Wales. Producer Michael Chapman told the TV Times “a military advisor told us the hills of Snowdonia are identical to those of India on the Afghanistan border.” There was a 2000ft climb though to reach exactly the right spot.

Frontier was one of the first shows made by Thames after the Franchise shake up of 1968, airing in the company’s first week on air.

Writers on the series included Anthony Scene, Berkeley Mather and Robert Holmes.

North Wales stood in for India for location filming. Here the cast and crew make their way to the perfect filming spot.
