Scott And Bailey (ITV 2011-2016, Suranne Jones, Lesley Sharp)

Crime drama series Scott and Bailey focuses on the cases of two Detective Constables working for the Manchester Metropolitan Police’s Major Incident Team. Rachel Bailey is the intuitive, bright, bold and funny one and highly career minded. Janet Scott is the thinker of the pair, highly subtle and something of a diplomat, always handy when your partner is impulsive and bold! Janet also has a few demons in her past and has also had a fling with her boss Detective Sergeant Andy Roper.

Heading up the unit is Detective Chief Inspector Gill Murray, divorced, single parent and highly capable. She inspires a great deal of devotion from her 30 strong team.

Scott and Bailey has an interesting genesis, series writer Sally Wainwright was working on the series Unforgiven in Yorkshire and met former police Detective Inspector Diane Taylor which gave Wainwright the chance to flesh out the background for the series. At the same Suranne Jones and Sally Lindsay had come up with an idea for a series about a pair of female DC’s. Wainwright took elements of both of these and Scott and Bailey was born. The character played by Amelia Bullmore is heavily based upon Diane Taylor.
