Highland Fling (ITV 1957, Richard Hearne, James Hayter)

Musical sitcom Highland Fling had it’s origins in a stage production that comedian Richard Hearne had planned for the West End. Many years later ITV revived the idea. The plot was on the farcical side, worthy of a Marx brothers film in fact. A London firm of estate agents, Nutty, Dime and Wormy have a Scottish castle on their books and millionaire Augustus Trim wants to buy it – things do not run smoothly though.

As well as playing his famous Mr Pastry character, Hearne also played a Mr McQuirtle.
