Linda Green (BBC-1 2001-2002 , Liza Tarbuck, Claire Rushbrook)

Drama series about the Linda Green of the title, confident, funny and flirty, she works in a car showroom by day, selling finance on used motors.

But by night she’s in her element behind a microphone, belting out numbers at the local social club. She can’t keep a man for more than fifteen minutes, but then again, she doesn’t really want to!

Written by Paul Abbott (the BAFTA and RTS award-winning creator of Clocking Off), produced by Red Production Company (the creators of Queer as Folk), and starring Liza Tarbuck in the title role.

Originally conceived as a series of six half-hour dramas, the BBC were so impressed with the rough-cuts of the first two episodes that they immediately extended the series to ten episodes. Jane Tranter, Drama Commissioner at the BBC explained: “When we looked at the first two episodes, the immediacy, audacity and sheer sense of fun of the series was so apparent that we decided an initial run of six episodes would not be enough to introduce audiences to Linda Green.”
