Crocodile Shoes: Running Man (BBC-1 28 Nov 96)

In Running Man, convinced that his music career is finished Jed is back home and even gets a job with a scrap metal contact of Archie’s (a job which lasts all of half a day!). Wendy the woman he met at the music fair offers to let him stay at her place whilst she is working in Germany, he realises that his PA Roxanne holds the key to untangling just what is going on. Ade, before his death, had clearly been up to all manner of shenanigans, linked to Warren Bowles.

Bowles seems to run everything, he is able to persuade cops to cover up murders and Jed’s record company to drop him. Roxanne, having been the catalyst for getting Jed out of Jail by saying the drugs were hers has been deported back to Germany, Warren sends his man Connors over to deal with her.

Strongest episode of the season yet, you are still not quite sure why Bowles is doing what he is doing (although clearly money is at the root of it all) and there is some good business with the reporter Quimby who is determined to get the lowdown on Jed. Matters come to a head when he discovers that Pep is acting as a loan shark and plans to spill the beans, Pep of course takes it out on Emma. Wendy calls in on Jed to let him know that his sister is in hospital only to discover him in bed with Lucy.
