What can we expect from this episode
In this three-part series, Dr. Marie Cassidy, Ireland’s former state pathologist, discusses the events and cases that have influenced her work.
Dr. Cassidy’s expertise was sought after for the investigation of all suspicious and wrongful deaths for over two decades. She was a public figure who courted media attention in order to make the office of State Pathologist more approachable, a strategy that occasionally backfired and earned her criticism.
Through the professional and personal challenges of dealing with death on a daily basis, Dr. Cassidy’s life is chronicled in this series, beginning with childhood in working class Glasgow and ending with retirement in leafy Ascot.
The first episode, “Unnatural Causes,” focuses on murders that have been masked or hidden and require forensic investigation to uncover the truth. Thoughts on situations that, at first glance, appeared straightforward but turned out to be more nuanced and contentious than expected.
