The legendary BBC adaptation of Richard Llewellyn’s classic book How Green Was My Valley, released in 1975, is revisited by award-winning actress Siân Phillips. Siân’s performance as Beth, the matriarch and soul of the Morgan family, was essential to the portrayal of a traditional Welsh mining community during a period of great upheaval. Along with some of her favourite personal memories, she also discusses the drama’s legacy and how it has stood the test of time. She recalls how the production came together as well as what it was like working with the other cast members, including Welsh icon Stanley Baker in what would be one of his final roles.
