Crime Drama Better Premiering Soon on BBC One
Better is a brand new five-part thriller from Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent for the BBC, starring Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie, Avenue 5) and Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch, The Honourable Woman, ABC Murders). Better was produced by the award-winning content studio SISTER (Chernobyl, This is Going to Hurt) (Humans, Spooks).
Filmed entirely in Leeds and the surrounding area of West Yorkshire, Better is a drama that examines the tangled and powerful links of family and loyalty in a society where everyone has their own idea of what is right and wrong. Detective Inspector Lou Slack (Leila Farzad) is on a mission to redeem herself by bringing down Col. McHugh (Andrew Buchan), a man she has come to love like a brother and who she has helped place at the head of Leeds’ criminal underworld. This story is an examination of the power of the human conscience. However, while Col is a formidable foe, Lou’s greatest battle may be with herself.
Their paths met 19 years ago, when Lou was a young police officer at her lowest ebb and Col was a low-ranking but ambitious newcomer to the Leeds underground, and they made a bargain that would alter the course of their lives forever. This deal made it possible for Col to amass immense wealth and influence, while also giving Lou a chance to revive her flagging career. In the process of forging this intricate and unique friendship, Lou began his slow but steady descent into corruption. Now that Lou’s family is on the verge of catastrophe, she has an opportunity to make amends for the mistakes she has made and the excuses she has given herself over the years.
